FileMaker to iCal connectivity

iCal is another one of the numerous applications we’ve connected to FileMaker. We’ve got it coming and going – exporting data from FileMaker to iCal, and vice-versa.
For example, in the FileMaker application we designed for Children’s Miracle Network, we incorporated a feature to export birthdays and anniversaries to iCal at the push of a button.
And perhaps our best example of moving data in the other direction is our own iCalTimer, which our developers in the field use to track their time. iCalTimer is a little desktop application that enables quick creation and timing of new events, such as a period of work for a particular client or project. Information is stored in a shared iCal calendar, and uploads automatically from there to our in-house FileMaker database. This enables our developers to keep rigorous track of their accruing time, even if they temporarily can’t directly access our in-house system – such as when they’re onsite behind a client’s network firewall, or working from a remote location without any Internet access at all.
