Workshop description

If you have a database system and you have been contemplating conversion, or you want to build a new system, this class is for you! Not only will you walk away with a possible approach to building and designing your new system but you’ll also walk away with a copy of the FOCUS framework to help you kick-start your solution development. FOCUS isn’t just another way to manage the relationship graph, but a great way to instantly begin with a functional user interface.

FOCUS was originally based on the SESSION approach or model, and has been used to build notable FMNexus products such as Inspectorâ„¢ and Dragonâ„¢ Web Surveys. FOCUS has evolved, in part from communications with FileMaker luminaries who have reviewed it and suggested best strategies and approaches to enable extension and expandability of the FOCUS framework. Thus, workshop attendees will benefit from input from the broader FileMaker community.

During this workshop we will explore how to customize the FOCUS framework to help you build a foundation for your project. We’ll be exploring how FOCUS was developed and how it can provide a head start in your FileMaker Development.

Vince has been working with FileMaker for over 15 years, and built Inspector, the leading FileMaker diagnostic tool for developers. He’s an expert in advanced developer techniques and he has been a speaker at several FileMaker Developer Conferences. Vince created Dragon Web Surveys and helped architect Web Services Plugin. He also built FOCUS, which Vince and other developers use as a foundation for solutions created for major clients. Vince hopes to release the FOCUS template as an open source project, allowing the FileMaker community at large to continue to contribute to its evolution.
