Amazon Web Services is Amazon's cloud computing platform, run on server farms worldwide and maintained by the Amazon subsidiary. Fees are based on usage along with the hardware, software, and service options a subscriber chooses. Customers can pay for a single virtual computer, a dedicated physical one, or large clusters, with security included in the agreement. AWS is widely considered the leading cloud platform, used by millions of customers including many of the largest enterprises. Its components are heavily modularized, and its Lambda functions can be written in many languages, including JavaScript, Ruby, Swift, or Python.
