SSL

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) was superseded by Transport Layer Security (TLS), the protocol that now secures data moving between servers and clients. SSL stopped at version 3.0 and was deprecated in 2015, so TLS is what runs today. The two names are often used interchangeably. TLS works across a wide range of applications, including email, web apps, voice, and instant messaging. It encrypts the data, authenticates the parties involved, and detects tampering in transit.
