Jacob Turino

Senior Developer

Jacob taught himself to code as a teenager making Microsoft Access databases for small businesses near his home in Vermont. Since then, he has learned Perl, Objective-C, Java, and Javascript, but lately spends most of his time working with Ruby on Rails.

Recent work includes helping to build the Rails backend API for mayday.us and designing and implementing a time tracking app in Rails, iOS, and Android for county agencies participating in California’s CMAA program.

Since leaving Vermont, Jacob has lived in Guatemala and California and has spent many weeks traveling in Central America. He’s always looking for an opportunity to return to Latin America and practice his Spanish.

Jacob started his college career as a philosophy and literature major, but ended up switching to a CS degree. Still, he remains passionate about the works of Dostoevsky, Plato, and Nietzsche and always welcomes a conversation about free will or ethics.

When not writing code, Jacob can be found riding his bike in the Berkeley hills, chasing Frisbees at a pickup game of ultimate, or scouring music blogs for psychedelic tunes from West Africa and cumbias from Peru.
